What employers tell us

Answers before you ask

To hire a maid, an employer must be at least 21 years old, a Singapore citizen residing in Singapore, not an undischarged bankrupt, and able to pay the helper’s monthly salary and daily upkeep. First-time employers must also complete the mandatory Employer Orientation Programme (EOP), where applicable. Check the latest MOM requirements before applying.
Yes. Employers can hire a helper directly if they have identified a suitable candidate and meet the applicable requirements. However, they remain responsible for the necessary applications, insurance, medical examinations, and other employment obligations. An agency can provide guidance with these steps, depending on the scope of its assistance.
Migrant domestic workers on Work Permits are employed on a live-in basis and must perform domestic duties only at their employer’s registered residential address. If you need part-time cleaning, consider separate commercial cleaning services instead.
The timeline depends on the candidate, documentation, and relevant approvals.
  • Transfer maids: A helper already in Singapore may be able to transfer within a few weeks, depending on the agreed start date and MOM approval.
  • Fresh or overseas candidates: Recruitment from overseas may take longer because of documentation, applicable requirements, travel arrangements, and availability.
OAK 3 can discuss the estimated timeline for the profiles you are considering.
Employers may apply to hire more than one domestic helper, subject to MOM’s eligibility and approval requirements. Your circumstances, including your household’s care responsibilities and financial eligibility, may affect the application.
Communication and adjustment can take time. OAK 3 can help clarify expectations and discuss available post-placement support. If the placement remains unsuitable, we can explain the applicable replacement procedures and conditions under the agency agreement.
